Greetings!
My name is Eric and I am Treasurer and an Advisory
Board member for GGR. I have known Shaun for over 8 years and he is never
one for a short conversation. This is especially true when it
comes to societal issues and matters of the heart. Though I would
like to think I know what was happening around me every day,
Shaun has really opened my eyes to the events happening around
the world and in my own back yard, issues that get swept under
the "main stream" media rug. Now is my time to help
educate others and help provide a channel for documented research
about the issues impacting the GLBT community.
I received a Bachelor Science in Business Administration from
Northern Arizona and also recently graduated from the Art Institute
of Phoenix with a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design. I am a
certified Cash Management Professional and a member of the American
Institute of Graphic Arts. I have been involved with the Arizona
GLBT community for 8 years through participation AIDS Walks,
Pride Festivals, fundraisers, community activism, and my company's
GLBT team member resource group.
As an openly gay man I struggle everyday to understand the issues
that keep so many of our GLBT friends, family and co-workers "in the
closet." Many companies large and small have formed GLBT employee groups, offered
domestic partner benefits, and provided diversity classes to
their employees. But still there is a fear of acceptance, a fear
that being openly gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender will
stand in the way of being promoted at work, or will lead to workplace
harassment.
The GLBT community is a diverse group, a community
that is not defined by the color of our skin, the color of our
hair, our economic class or the language we speak. This quagmire
creates an interesting opportunity for GGR to conduct research
and understand how we are perceived. Through the sharing of our
findings, I hope that we can empower people to knock down their
door and feel comfortable being themselves around others in public
and in the workplace.
